End of the Year: Student Gift Ideas!

The end of the school year is always an exciting and busy time with barely any moments to breathe! :) So many things to remember like permission forms to sight, activities to plan, classrooms to move, decorations to put up and take down (but not *too* early!)... not to mention a class to teach and keep motivated during those last few weeks!

It's little wonder that the days start passing so fast that you wake up and wonder where all the time has gone. Amongst the chaos, it is sometimes difficult to think of an inexpensive (and meaningful) gift to give your students before they leave your class. I know some teachers are very organized and have their gifts planned way in advance, but here are some gift ideas that are good to go... even at the last minute!

If you have taken photographs and/or video recordings of your students during the school year, compiling the data on a DVD is a great gift idea. It doesn't have to be fancy. It could just be a simple slideshow of the students. On the other hand, it could be a well-edited movie with all the bells and whistles. Adding a customized cover is a nice touch. It's a thoughtful idea to incorporate student artwork or a class photograph.

Like most teachers, you probably have some pictures of your students from when they first entered your class at the beginning of the school year. It can be a fun gift idea to have 'before' and 'after' photographs side-by-side. These pictures could be placed in a frame. If you don't have any early pictures of your students (because let's face it, I *did* say this post would help those of us who like to do things at the last minute ;), you could take photographs of your students now and place them in frames like a graduation picture.

There are so many great stationery ideas. I think it's fabulous to give students stationery because it encourages them to 'keep learning' in a subtle way!
Some ideas that are tried and true include:

* Making little stationery party favor bags!
* Giving students a wooden ruler with 'you rule' on a tag and writing a personal message to each students on the wood on the back of the ruler!
* Gifting students with a pencil/pen, along with a notebook/notepad/sketchbook etc.
* Giving students a little watercolor paint set

Bookmarks are functional and promote a love of reading, but they can also be personalized to make each student feel special. As a child, I always liked gifts that I couldn't eat (I preferred the little toy in my party favors bag to the candy!) and I loved presents that were somehow uniquely meant for ME. Yes, that sounds a tad egotistical, but we all like feeling singled out for our good qualities!

Here are some bookmarks that are super easy to make and very cute! Because they can be laminated, they are durable and last for years to come.

What's more, in addition to being a keepsake for your students, they will get lots of use out of it!

Good luck with your end of year and have a fantastic summer vacation! And if you're in need of something quick and easy to send home with your students to prevent the 'summer slide', these Common Core aligned packs might be just what you need! (And parents will be thrilled!)
